Lifestyle Applesauce

“First we eat, then we do everything else.” –M.F.K. Fisher

My mess maker eats constantly and he’s pretty adept at using a spoon, fork, and a cup. I wanted to capture how cute and messy it is right now because in a few years a cup of applesauce won’t be so exciting and fun.

I worked on capturing new and exciting angles, getting the texture in the applesauce. getting the detail shots and pull back shots all while the dining room table was covered in things we were sorting through in preparation with our move–making angles very hard because I can’t stand trying to edit things OUT of the image. I had to be really conscious of that because I wanted to focus on my son and not our messy house. When you know you’re working with limited space, find somewhere that’s as clear as possible and work within that area. You’ll make your life easier when you get those images on your computer!

The Cutest Pineapple

I haven’t been doing much studio work lately but I had the little Wren over to play and so I put her in the studio and let her play. This baby has the best style and I love, love working with her because I love her and her family so much that it brings me such joy to share my art with them!

She and my mess maker had a tumultuous time in the studio but we definitely got some cute images! With warm weather here, my studio work has taken a back seat but I loved the chance to get back to it!

Lifestyle – Mummy and Me

“In a child’s eyes, a mother is a goddess. She can be glorious or terrible, benevolent or filled with wrath, but she commands love either way. I am convinced that this is the greatest power in the universe.” ― N.K. Jemisin, The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms

Years and years ago, I decided I was going to do EVERYTHING RIGHT as a parent. Teenagers are dumb. There is no right way. There is the way we choose, the path we walk, and in that way it is right for us and that is all that matters.

Years ago when I learned about the power of breastfeeding, I knew, I KNEW that I would nurse my children.

A year and a half ago when that baby was born–despite much apprehension about the actual breastfeeding, I was determined to make it work. But we hit a snag and my little J and I needed help. I was distraught and lost because this was what I wanted and the mum featured today changed that. She calmed the storm and put us back on course. She humbly turns all the credit back to mom and baby–but no ship arrives in port without a navigator.

As a thank you for making our lives better, I wanted to give her a gift so I invited myself over, sat them down, and started making them laugh. I asked mummy to tell embarrassing stories (she did not disappoint) and the girls to share what they loved about mum and they laughed nearly the entire time! Their family is one of love and laughter and empowerment–because both daughters loved how much their mum listened to them, valued them, and treated them with respect.

Thank you to my friend, midwife, and lactation consultant. You will always hold a special place in my heart!

Better than Dreams!

“You know you’re in love when you can’t fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams.” ―Dr. Seuss

When this beautiful little lady contacted me, I was scared and so excited as it is my first ever couples session (minus a few of my brother who is a tough customer!). I prepped as much as I could to get a large variety of shots in one of my favorite locations and went with my best jokes in hand. It’s always a different session with no children running around and mamas apologizing (why do we always do that? kids are little hyper messes!) but it’s so enjoyable to see and photograph love like this! So thank you for loving my work so much you decided I was worth documenting part your love story!

Little Boy, Big Laughs!

“Happiness [is] only real when shared.” ―Jon Krakauer, Into the Wild

When our boys were itty, I met this mama and I have loved how hard she works and how much she loves her baby. With both her and daddy being in the military, their life is anything but easy! They travel a very difficult path and I don’t envy them but I have so much respect for how much grace and love they use to get through it. Mom and dad are so in love with baby and so in love with each other, it’s a treat to have shared this morning with them!

Lifestyle – The Sandbox

“This is the real secret of life — to be completely engaged with what you are doing in the here and now. And instead of calling it work, realize it is play.” ― Alan W. Watts

There is beauty in the crash between J’s playing and my own.

Another Little Boy Dreams Big

“I dream my painting and then paint my dream.” -Vincent Van Gogh

I couldn’t adore these paint sessions more though I think this may be our last–and messiest!–one while we’re in Belgium. This little boy was so sweet and so shy. He didn’t really want his picture taken but he really did love painting and putting his paint cups together. He had the most gorgeous eyes and made such a lovely mess!

Chubby Baby and the Ones that Love Her!

The other day, you got to see my biggest family yet and today you get to see a tiny offshoot of that family. It’s such a hard thing when you’re a military family to build and maintain the relationships of extended family. It’s hard to know how many people are out there that love your children from afar so when they’re all together, it’s always a gift! And this family, all of them, are nothing but love! It’s such a joy to share in that love! So a huge thank you to this big, big family and their littles for letting me be apart of that love!
