Happy Fourth! Now Booking – Holiday Session | Minot, ND Photographer

Little L, Mess Maker J, Sessions

My calendar is officially open to celebrate the fourth with all the little munchkins. I’ve designed this little session for kids 6 and under and despite the inclement weather this weekend, I will have an outdoor set available!

This session is $125 for 5 digital images with a print release. This session is limited to about 10 minutes (which is plenty for the kids to get rowdy and have a blast and cute it up).

Meet My Munchkins — Sibling Session | Minot, ND Photographer

Family, Little L, Mess Maker J, Sessions

I’ve got two little ones now, J who I’ve featured on the blog a TON and L who is our newest family member. She’s 3 months now but I’m sharing her one month photos.

J loves… everything! And he loves being in front of the camera.

L loves mama and milks and bathtime. She’s working on catching up to brother’s modelling prowess. 🙂

Scrubbing Up – Lifestyle Photography | Minot, ND Photographer

My last few weeks in Belgium were spent focusing on capturing every possible memory of J’s very first home and one of those big memories was the bath. I don’t know what it is about the bathtub, but it’s one of my favorite places to photograph my son. I’m worried our next home won’t have such beautiful natural light in every room that I’ll be struggling to get images like these. I’m so thankful for our time in Europe and my ability to capture our beautiful memories.

Lifestyle – Research with Pappy

Journey, Mess Maker J

“Play is the highest form of research.”
― Albert Einstein

My parents visited us in Belgium to help us prepare for our big move to Minot, ND and this little boy of mine has been obsessed with his pappy since Day 1. He is so loving and so into all of our family and close friends but these two have just the strongest connection and they compliment each other so well that it isn’t hard to capture sweet pictures of them together.

This is a set I did trying to document their play. They let me be a fly on the wall (usually my Mess Maker wants to hold the camera for a few shots so it’s a battle to document him) but he was so into Pappy he just didn’t care.

I really enjoyed the chance to capture their connection, their play, and the details.

Lifestyle Applesauce

Journey, Learning, Mess Maker J

“First we eat, then we do everything else.” –M.F.K. Fisher

My mess maker eats constantly and he’s pretty adept at using a spoon, fork, and a cup. I wanted to capture how cute and messy it is right now because in a few years a cup of applesauce won’t be so exciting and fun.

I worked on capturing new and exciting angles, getting the texture in the applesauce. getting the detail shots and pull back shots all while the dining room table was covered in things we were sorting through in preparation with our move–making angles very hard because I can’t stand trying to edit things OUT of the image. I had to be really conscious of that because I wanted to focus on my son and not our messy house. When you know you’re working with limited space, find somewhere that’s as clear as possible and work within that area. You’ll make your life easier when you get those images on your computer!

“This is the real secret of life — to be completely engaged with what you are doing in the here and now. And instead of calling it work, realize it is play.” ― Alan W. Watts

There is beauty in the crash between J’s playing and my own.

Lifestyle – Playtime with Granny

Journey, Learning, Mess Maker J

Living away from family is hard. A lot of times we enjoy our freedom but more often we feel isolated. We build up friendships which is essential and a true blessing, but it’s hard to watch J grow up away from his grandparents and aunts and uncles and cousins. But, fortunately, we got a nice long visit with Granny, Grandpa, and Auntie S (and a big trip to Italy) this month and I wanted to share a few of J playing with his Granny as, unfortunately, these portraits are few and far between and highly cherished.

To talk about these photos a little: the too bright sun kept coming and going while I was taking these so the shadows and lighting is really harsh. I wouldn’t want to work with this light with a client because it’s so hard to get a flattering portrait like this! The shadows from eyebrows can make a person look exhausted or completely black out their eyes! Keep that in mind when working on your own or looking for a photographer to work with–no midday sessions!

I, however, had to capture J with his Granny because they were too cute together and again–the opportunity to photograph them together is a rare one.
