Laughter in the Abbey

“If love is the treasure, laughter is the key.” – Yakov Smirnoff

I had the chance to work with a very giggly couple and I had such a great time finding ways to get them to crack up but also loosen up to share their love with the world. We walked around Villers Abbey again searching for little ways to make it our own and to make it romantic. I think we succeeded in getting some great (and steamy) moments.

I never thought I’d love doing couples photos so much because I started out taking photos of my son but every session reminds me of myself and as I work with every client, I always imagine what I would want and I have a fun time trying to deliver that art for someone else.

The Pentamerous Family

“I take my children everywhere, but they always find their way back home.” – Robert Orben
Evidence of a well-lived life is to get to know people and to enjoy their life for no other reason than because they are happy. I was able to meet this family when I worked at the local teen center and as we both prepare to depart Belgium, they allowed me (yes allowed) to take their family portraits. These teens were a handful despite knowing and liking me (most days) but we still had fun and captured some cute memories.
I have to put this dad on high too–he’s such a great father and is always there for all three of his kids, I got to witness his willingness to put them first, love them for who they are, and let them make mistakes.

Lifestyle – Athenian Playground

Baby J is back again, this time in a classic lifestyle session, albiet in a glamorous location. I wanted to share this because this is the type of momtography we should all be working towards not because of quality but because of life.

We take our kids to the playgrounds so often that we forget how important it is to document their play. It doesn’t matter if the sun is super harsh (seriously could the shadows be any sharper?! No!), find a touch of shade or just embrace it because–the moment is more important. Remember that. The moment is paramount. You can create gorgeous portraits in perfect settings, sure, but you can’t capture these memories without embracing the imperfections of light and color casts.

So take pictures at the playground! Capture these moments, they don’t last forever!

Painting with Vision

“Little girls with dreams become women with vision.” -Unknown

I had the pleasure of working with this little spitfire the other day. She came complete with heels, lipstick, pearls, and of course, princess Minnie. She very carefully made this gorgeous painting. She’s such a wonderful character and I am so happy that I have had the chance to know her and her family and I cannot wait to watch her grow up. She is already such an awesome embodiment of feminism. She’ll shape the world, that’s for sure.

Once More to the Abbey

I love, love, love going to Villers Abbey for family portraits, it’s hands down my favorite location. I always have a blast trying to find new ways to use this location to showcase the beauty that is family.

This time, I talked another family of 6 to come with me to check out the ruins. The kids loved playing in the ruins (almost nothing is off limits here) and I loved getting them to play and laugh together. I even got quite a few solid laughs from the toddler! Go me!

We were racing the clock at this location–they were ringing the bell at us to get out–and it was well worth it I think!

Lifestyle – Athens National Gardens

I’m sharing a part of my journey–more from our family vacation to Greece.

I usually take a step back when we’re traveling to take photos and then I put my camera away. I’m sure that it sounds foreign that a photographer would just put her camera away but I want to live. I want to experience our vacation with my husband and son more than I want to document it. I still capture the essence of our day, like when we visited The Parthenon, but then we move on to enjoying the world we’re in. It’s hard sometimes with the toddler wanting to get down and explore when we’re walking on the street or in a museum so we always look for places to take him that he can be free–this time it was the National Gardens in Athens.

We walked through the gardens, I made sure to let him lead and capture the beauty that is a toddler in a park. He has no idea we are in a completely different country and that it matters at all; he just wants to play with a stick.

Patriotic–Little Wren and Daddy’s Boots

This little girl is one of my favorite models (can you tell!?). I love spending time with her and her mama and my mess maker finds her to be his favorite cuddle buddy. He has spent plenty of time just holding this little girl and I know he’ll have fun chasing her once she gets mobile! I am so sad I’ll be losing my worker bee in a few months but I was so glad for the chance to meet her and her family. I’m sure you’ll see more of this one before I move!

You can see more of this gorgeous girl on past posts: The last peep!Little Wren Potter, and The Whole Wren Family!

Happy Father’s Day

One of the reason’s I got into photography was because I wanted the chance to capture my son as he grows. He’s grown up so fast and I so love how much he’s changing and learning but I still miss my little baby. If you haven’t taken a photo of your little one(s) today, do it! You won’t regret it.

Happy Father’s Day to all the daddies out there, I hope you’re having a great one!
